Week 26 - Moncagua Grind

This was my second week in Moncagua and wow, it was fantastic. We are working super hard everyday and already see the fruits of our labors. Here are the highlights!

We had some funny things happen this past week. Here in Moncagua right now it's just a giant party. It's like the Highland Fling on Saturday night but every single night. Music just blaring and roller coasters and crazy stuff. Well one of these nights the concert/disco happened to be literally right in front of our front door. Didn't sleep a wink until about 3:30 when the music stopped haha. Also we got locked out of our house that same night. The key just stopped working for some reason... we literally tried everything. Then the owner just told us to break down the door, and that was a fun time.

The last thing that was funny -- although I was upset in the moment -- was when we were looking for an investigator, named Lucas. He had been to church 6 times and had all the lessons before I arrived here and was ready to be baptized. After multiple cancelled lessons in the past month, he told us to meet in the park at 6. We waited there, called 3-4 times, sent a message, got nothing. So we decided to go to his house, where we saw him sitting in his hammock on his phone. He completely blew us off, so we sat and watched for a sec. Eventually we knocked, and he immediately ran and hid behind the door, as if we didn't see him already... His older sister came out and said he was out walking in the other city (alone in the dark), and that his phone isn't working. Geeeez, I guess I didn't realize we looked that dumb haha. It took all the power in me not to call her out, but we just said thanks and left. It is sad to see him lose potential blessings, hopefully one day he will be more prepared to accept the Gospel.

This week we had a baptism! His name is Hector, he is 10 years old and is always happy and smiling. He comes from a partial-member family and when I got here in Moncagua we started teaching him. He accepted everything super fast, and already got baptized. The tough thing was that there was NO WATER in the church. We went Saturday night to fill it, no luck. In the morning, the same thing happened. No agua! Something went wrong with the water pressure, and so we had to carry the water bucket by bucket into the church and throw it into the font. We had the help of a few members, and we were able to baptize him with just a foot of water. He sat down in the font as I was on my knees, and boom we did it. It was such a crazy experience but so cool. The worth of souls really is great!

I am enjoying my mission the more the weeks go by. I feel like I am slowly becoming a more capable missionary and I am doing my best to work hard. Sometimes, there are days where I am totally burnt out, but the next day I'm re-energized and ready to get back to it. Just gotta stay focused out here! Hope you all have an amazing week! Nos vemos!
