Week 33 - Robbed

Well everyone! The title of my email is not a joke haha. I know I really shouldn't tell the story... but I just can't resist. :)

So on Thursday morning after our district meeting we headed out to go on interchanges with the zone leaders. My companion stayed in our area and I went to work in the area of the zone leaders, with Elder Gonzalez! It was about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and we had literally just finished lunch. We were walking down a dirt road when we saw a car slowly roll up next to us. I was wondering why he had to pass by so close when the car stopped and I saw the door open. I immediately noticed the kid's gun and just thought, "You gotta be kidding me." He couldn't have been older than 17 and I could tell he was scared too (probably his first time robbing somebody), but with a gun pointed at us we just put our hands up. He started going through our pockets saying he wanted all the money, the phones, blah blah. He took a few things and then the driver asked us if that was everything we had... What kind of question is that? Did he really think I was gonna say 'no'? "Oh yeah hey man, you forgot to grab my camera and my wallet with the credit card in the top pocket of my backpack." Nah hombre. No way. Anyway, then they drove off and me and my comp stood there in shock for a sec. We lost 45 bucks in total, him 15 and me 30. But hey, we are both alive and all is well. We laughed about it the rest of the day because it hadn't happened to either of us in the mission, kinda crazy!

So besides that experience, we are working hard here in Moncagua. A month ago we had the attendance at 60 and yesterday we hit 104. We were pretty happy about it, but we want more investigators attending. We are helping a lot of people come back to church which is great but also we need to be helping people get to know the church as well. Yesterday, one of our investigators whose name is Narsizo came to church for the first time. Although he is around 70 years old and can't read, he really enjoyed the meeting and all the members made him feel really welcome. His baptism is scheduled for the 6th of April so we are preparing for that and are pretty excited.

But that was pretty much my week. All the missionaries are on edge about the big rumor on shortening the time of missionaries in the field, but we will see what happens in conference. Have a good week everyone. Nos vemos!
