Week 35 - 8 months!

We had a great week here in Moncagua and an even better weekend! Also, today I officially hit 8 months on the mission which is so crazy! Anyway, here is what happened this week.

So I decided it would be pretty cool if we made our own shirts as a district and I talked to this guy that lives in the ward here and he said he would do it. One of the Elders in our district designed the t-shirt and then yesterday we got the finished product. District Moncagua baby! (check the pic) They're pretty cool :)

Not only had we been preparing for Conference weekend, but also helping our investigator, Narciso, prepare for his baptism. We really have seen a change in his happiness ever since he went to Church for the first time. He had his baptismal interview, and we knew he was ready. His baptismal date was scheduled for Saturday, but when we went to his house on Thursday he told us he still felt unprepared and that he needed more time in the Church. Although disappointed, we invited him specifically to pray and ask God if he should be baptized this weekend. Then, two days later, on Saturday after the afternoon session of General Conference, my comp and I bolted up to his house (30 minutes walking uphill) and sat down to talk with him. We brought the baptismal clothes with us to help get him more excited too. We talked for a little, and then we finally asked him, "Hermano, we know you are ready. Will you be baptized tomorrow?" There was a pause, and his grandson sitting next to him who is 7 years old shouted, "Say yes or no grandpa!" After another long paused he said, "Si." I couldn't believe it! I was so pumped! Our prayers were answered.

The next morning, we drove up in the pickup truck up to Rodeo where he lives, and brought him to church, along with his family, and all the other members that live there too. There were 21 of us in this small pickup. Imagine that! We arrived at the church, had the baptismal service, and then Narciso was confirmed just a few hours later. (see pictures) His wife, who is a die-hard Catholic, was crying tears of joy the whole time and loved the Conference as well. It will only be a short time before the Lord softens her heart as well and helps her accept the Gospel.

General Conference was also incredible! It's crazy how fast it goes by. A 2-hour session before the mission felt like 4 hours, and a session now feels like only one half hour. There were so many good messages but I really liked Elder Rasband's talk about how we need to go home and ponder the things which have been said throughout these two days and fortify ourselves. For those that are curious, my favorite talks came from Elder Holland, Elder Uchtdorf, President Dallin H. Oaks (Sunday afternoon), President Henry B. Eyring's talk in Priesthood Session, and President Nelson's talk in the Priesthood Session as well. Straight heat! Anyway, miss and love you all and have a great week. Nos vemos!
